| Dear Subscribers, Greetings! Welcome to the late edition. This week was a difficult one, but with some good lessons for myself. One of my biggest weaknesses is the propensity to under-plan my paintings. I just want to jump in already!!, but sometimes I pay the price....especially on larger pieces. It ends up taking much longer, and with worse results. So in lieu of saying "Bad week, nothing to show, win-some-lose-some," I'll go ahead and take you through it. I forgot to photograph the actual setup, so we'll jump to the first stage. This is a 16x20 panel:  I have a loose image in my mind, but not a complete image, figuring the rest of the painting will just work itself out. Silly...... Next stage:  Next stage:  The scene is too empty (surprise).... now I'm stuck with the task of filling out the composition. Next stage:  Maybe this ledge will fix it........nope. Final stage:  One of the ways I see if I'm done with a painting is to sign it, photograph it, and look at the digital image on my computer. Well, it just doesn't work. There are parts that I like, but at this point I'm sick of it and it will be more productive to move on to the next one. One of my teachers once said, "Don't polish a turd." I like that.
