Dear Subscribers,
Greetings.
It's been a while. I hope you are doing well. I have nothing clever to say, but a lot of new work to show you.
First are two more 6x6 minis, with nifty time lapse videos:
Drink (6x6 oil on linen ACM, sold)
Sake, Foil, and Red (6x6 oil on linen ACM, available $1200 USD)
Next. I've experimented with abstract painting in the past. When I say abstract, I mean full abstract--more abstract than the typical amount of abstraction involved in my representational painting. With this little painting, I have begun a period of composing cityscapes fully from imagination. In other words, I'm abstracting from the abstracted ideas of city/landscape features that I hold in my mind. When I finished this little painting, I realized that maybe I'm an abstract painter after all, and it feels good.
I didn't take any process pictures/videos of this one. I just had to dive in without distractions.
City By The Light Divided (6x6 oil on linen ACM, sold)
My experience with this painting has permanently altered the way I approach cityscapes going forward.
I made a painting to keep for myself. My daughter was face-painted by a friend (another artist). Too cute, had to paint.
L with Face Paint (24x12 oil on panel)
I've created two 12x12 paintings on Artefex Allinpanel (linen on aluminum) for this upcoming show.
First, a still life. As you can see from the video, it was a journey of trial and error:
"The Artifact" (12x12 oil on Artefex Allinpanel, available through Gallery 1261)
Next, a cityscape. Like the previous cityscape, totally from imagination. No video, but here are some progress pics:
And the finished painting:
"Into The Vale of Last Lights" (12x12 oil on Artefex Allinpanel, available through Gallery 1261)
Drink
City By The Light Divided
Thank you for reading. Until next time, Best wishes -David
