| Dear Subscribers,
 Greetings!

 New cityscape this week.

 The setup:

I took this photo on Market Street in San Francisco.
I imagine a painting that is really atmospheric, with subdued color, and with the building in sharper focus and higher contrast than it's surroundings.

At this point, I decided that I was done. Finished! Cut to 45 minutes later, with my paints cleaned up, and the photo uploaded to my website: I decided that I was not done. Back to the easel....

And now, the finished painting, "At The Crossing" (18x24):

I'm still not sure whether the painting works better now than before, but I'm much more satisfied with it. It's closer to the original vision I had when I chose that photo as a starting point. I guess I'm just a sucker for high contrast.

My painting "Trolley Tracks" has been chosen to participate in the upcoming Scottsdale Salon of Fine Art at Legacy Gallery! (April 21 - May 19)

Here are a bunch of 5-minute gesture drawings from the evening class I'm taking:

I have added a new section to the website. On the email newsletter signup page, there is now a link to read past issues. You will find a list of several past newsletters for your perusal if you are deathly bored at work, or maybe you are a curious new subscriber (and deathly bored). Enjoy!

I had a great thrift-store still-life find today. Very exciting. Yes, these things excite me now. So expect a still-life with a dirty brass tea kettle soon. I'm also planning another big vertical cityscape, just waiting for delivery of a 36x18 panel.

 Until next week,
