![]() Dear Subscribers, First, huge thanks to those of you who ordered prints! (Previous newsletter HERE)
Next, I have a major announcement: PRICE SHIFT 2X Big changes coming in 2022. On January 1st, in cooperation with Gallery 1261 in Denver, the pricing on all of my available paintings will undergo a major shift. They will all double in price.
Several factors contributed to this decision. Over the past few years, paintings have been taking me longer and longer to create. Due to time limitations (hello parenting haha) but also due to my own creative evolution—I simply take longer to paint. And now, as I split time between my digital artwork and oil painting, my new oil paintings could become even more rare.
Growing a bit older and having children has made me more aware of my fleeting time on this planet, and the thought often occurs to me: how nice it would be if my children could end up owning and enjoying more of my paintings, both while I'm here and when I’m gone. And so I am much less eager to part with my creations. If they sell, wonderful. If they don’t sell, wonderful.
In my humble yet extremely biased opinion (LOL), my current pricing structure that I've had for years no longer reflects the time, effort, and skill involved in making these paintings. I hope you understand my reasoning, and I thank you for all the support and for making my career possible (especially those og subscribers from 13 years ago!). If you are interested in purchasing a painting before the price shift, you can contact me or Gallery 1261.
DIGITAL ARTWORK This year has been a wild creative awakening for me. I've been creating (and selling) digital artworks. I will focus on just one of those digital outlets in this newsletter.
You may have heard (but probably not) about AI-assisted artwork. Simply put, AI and GAN (generative adversarial networks) are just another tool for the artist... a different sort of brush to paint with.
I trained artificial intelligence with a database of my images--hundreds of my oil paintings. The AI learned what my paintings look like...or what it THINKS they look like. Then I use that AI to generate new images from that knowledge (mostly awful, some interesting, some spellbinding). From these new images, I select a few options that I think have potential, and then I spend hours and hours in photoshop like a madman, mashing them together, collaging, painting, etc. And so they are a mixture of oil painting, AI, digital manipulation, collage, digital painting, sometimes remixing again with my paintings, etc... Here are some of these artworks: ![]() These Things Are For You ![]() Tower On The Burning Sea ![]() I Looked Down Upon A Lake Of Fire And Knew ![]() Eldritch Flight Over The Megaliths ![]() The Drowned God ![]() City Within Cells Interlinked ![]() And Then There Was Fire And Silence ![]() Alpha and Omega If you would like to learn more about the creation process, I made two Twitter threads about it:

And if you'd like to see more of these artworks (a couple are animated..with sound!), you can view the entire collection here: Or, if that gallery isn't loading correctly, here: https://objkt.com/profile/dancbank/created
I will write more about my digital art and the world of nfts (mine are mostly on the Tezos blockchain) in future newsletters.... I haven't even told you about Procreate on my new iPad yet...game-changer! For now, signing off, wishing you well. As always, thank you for reading. -David
