Greetings!

A new month of my still-life class (now with the expanded 3-day/week
schedule) starts tomorrow. Mondays are full but there is one slot still
open for wednesdays and fridays. For details or to get on the waiting

I hate painting. April Fools!

Ahh, a week filled with still-life. Felt good.

New painting.
The setup:
 
 

Nancy, one of my students, brought in a little spool of copper wire to
use as a prop. It was shiny, so I oohed and aahed so she let me borrow
it. Thanks Nancy! Me like shiny. 

Here's the animation of my process. After the initial umber drawing, I
just used my painting knife. Thick paint is ever so satisfying.

Last Wednesday was a "paint-along" day during my class. We got lots done
in 3 hours:


 
 

 
 

I liked where this one was going so I continued working on it after
class.

I decided the red cloth, while somewhat subdued, still took too much
attention away from the onion. Also the background was so simple as to
make the composition a little flat.... I wanted greater feeling of
depth. The habaneros need work.

 
 

At this point I think the cloth is working but the background around the
onion is too much, it's taking away from the impact of the onion.
Sometimes the process is like this. Give and take.
