Dear Subscribers,

Greetings!

Painting started rough this week, but ended a'ight.
I scraped out a still-life attempt. Not worth posting that one here.

After some floundering/arranging a got a new idea.

The setup:

My goal with this is to create as much depth and atmosphere as possible by limiting the value and color range of objects as they recede.  I want the apple and vase to be colorful and have high contrast to bring them forward.

First stage:

Next stage:

Feeling out those values.

Next stage:

Really trying to restrain the values and saturation of the kettle and milk can.

Next stage:

I'm happy with this start but there's still lots of work to do before it comes together. I plan to mess with edge quality quite a bit, and I've got some ideas on how to resolve the background and table surface to fill out the composition. We'll see what happens. To be continued next week...........

These three paintings have already PRE-SOLD for my upcoming Solo Show in September at R.S. Hanna Gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas!:

Blossom In Murk  ;  Beacon  ;  Mirage on Market
