Dear Subscribers,
Greetings!
Some framing action in preparation for my upcoming Solo Show at RS Hanna Gallery in Texas. Gonna start shipping soon. It's always a relief when new paintings go out the door. While they're here I sense a sort of creative static...interference....It is good to completely clear out now and then.

New still life. I borrowed this pitcher from my mother-in-law. At the time I had no idea it would be so challenging to paint. At first glance it seems like a very simple object. That's the problem--the smooth material and bright clean color makes for an incredibly subtle value change...that combined with thick paint from a knife. So the vast majority of time was spent going over and over and over the pitcher.

From the beginning I knew I'd be putting an imaginary daisy into the bottom left quadrant of the painting, to play off the pitcher and balance the whole thing.

And the finished painting, "Sun Tea in Darkness" (12x12):

This painting will debut at my Solo Show at RS Hanna Gallery in October!
I'm currently half way on a new SF cityscape for Studio Gallery's City Streets in September. You'll see it in the following issue.
