 New still life.
 The setup:
 My focus is the orange.
 THE PITCHER returns.
 
  
 First stage:
 
  
 Next stage. I establish my lightest light on the orange. Over to the pitcher: normally I don't paint in shadow first. In this instance my intention is to de-emphasize the darks to the extreme (everywhere except around the orange). So I wanted to establish this undark value early. Everything is in service to the orange.

 Next. I'm also going to limit the highlights on the pitcher to a value darker than the lightest light of the orange. As we approach the orange, more color. So I allow the pear at right to retain most of its actual color:
 
  
 Up close, chunky chaos. Back up and there is the illusion of an orange.
