Back from a quick trip to Denver. Firstly:

I'm so happy that the timing of the 1261 reception allowed me to see
Daniel Sprick's "Fictions" at the Denver Art Museum before it comes down
next month.

I'm pretty sure that the following is not hyperbole, although I'm still
reeling a little from the experience. I have never spent so long looking
at a group of paintings. I have never seen a better museum exhibit. I'm
not really a museum person, but I just walked around that one room for
hours. Emotionally, the only art viewing experience that I found
comparable was when I saw the Bernini sculptures at the Villa Borghese.
Maybe it's partially because I've been painting for a bit now so each
stroke and value and temperature and scumble tells a tale of intense
care and effort that I can empathically experience. Or maybe not. Maybe
I would have felt the same way regardless. I know I came away from it
changed and inspired. I just don't know how quite yet. I think it will
take me some time to process. It flipped a switch in my brain. I'm on
the precipice of some great leap forward in my painting but I have no
idea what form that will take.

 

At this point my trip was already a success. But of course, the first
reason for coming:

 

 
 

 

The reception on Friday for Contemporary Realism
  at
Gallery 1261 was great. It was packed. You know what's awesome? When
newsletter subscribers come out for a show and say hi. Thank you. It
means a lot to me.

 

I flaked and didn't even take a photo of the wall my 3 paintings are on.
There might be some pictures from that night forthcoming from other
sources but not sure.

 

Ok, back to the nitty gritty.
