I competed in my second Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament! While the past 10 months of bjj hasn't necessarily effected my art, there are parallels that help to remind myself why I paint. The sheer joy of learning, improving, and experimenting. Having a challenge in front of me and trying my best (win or lose). The need to focus on the task at hand.
This was a round-robin submission-only tournament, and I competed in two divisions (181-195lbs Gi White belt Masters 35 ; and 188-202lbs No-Gi Adult Beginner). Out of 6 matches total I had 4 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. I learned so much from this experience. Honestly, without my awesome coach there giving advice at every match, it's possible I may have lost them all. My biggest lesson (after stiff, exhausting draw) was to stay as loose and relaxed as possible. To not fight strength with strength. It always comes back to the quote from Dune, doesn't it?:
"Fear is the mind-killer."
