Dear Subscribers,

Greetings!

Currently accepting deposits for January enrollment in my still-life oil painting lessons (Palo Alto, CA. Mondays and Wednesdays 9am-noon. $250 per month). Email me for more details.

My painting "Green Vessel" will be in the Legacy Gallery (Scottsdale, AZ) Annual Holiday Small Works Show, opening December 8th!

Last Monday I was arranging objects, trying to come up with an interesting still-life idea. After some time I realized that I'm sick of my current collection of still-life debris, so I went into the kitchen and grabbed some random stuff...including an old waffle iron (from my childhood, in fact). I'm not done yet, so here's a cropped preview:

Yep, it's a waffle iron.

I'm having fun with it. Well, a mixture of fun and frustration. ;)
Final version and progress shots in next week's newsletter.

On Wednesday I returned to The Safehouse Atelier for a new month of night figure class taught by Carl Dobsky. Neat top-down lighting this time. Here is my progress from that night:

Given the positive response from last week's quote, here are more words of art wisdom from Mr. Pressfield:

RESISTANCE AND PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is the most common manifestation of Resistance because it's the easiest to rationalize. We don't tell ourselves, "I'm never going to write my symphony." Instead we say, "I am going to write my symphony; I'm just going to start tomorrow."

RESISTANCE AND PROCRASTINATION, PART TWO

The most pernicious aspect of procrastination is that it can become a habit. We don't just put off our lives today; we put them off till our deathbed.

Never forget: This very moment, we can change our lives. There never was a moment, and never will be, when we are without the power to alter our destiny. This second, we can turn the tables on Resistance.

This second, we can sit down and do our work.
