Dear Reader,

Greetings.

It's been a minute since my last update. I now roll eyes at my previous self who used to think and say with regrettable hubris, "I never get sick!"--not bothering to even knock on wood! With ripening age (43, egads) and children in school, I have been gradually humbled by the reality of school-borne viruses, never more so than this past month. And while I sit here under a blanket feeling slightly sorry for myself, I'm simultaneously thankful for the overall health of my family and all the good things happening creatively.

My final [finished] painting of 2024 was this one below, "Jade & Flame", which sold right off the easel, always a wonderful thing to happen!

I made a long time-lapse video of the entire process, which, to my surprise, was enjoyed by viewers on instagram. Maybe I'll start doing it more often. In this age of quick reels and snappy editing, I thought for sure that a 10 minute silent video would be ignored. Happy to be wrong.

PAINTING COLLAB

I'm working on a pair of collaborative paintings with my friend Colt Brown (tattoo artist and fine artist) who owns the tattoo ink company Empire Inks in Wisconsin. I'm going to start one and he's going to start one, then we're going to exchange and finish them. It's an exciting experiment and I feel like the oil painting world could use more collaborations. Why not?

Here's the one I started. I'll be shipping it out to him soon. I'm so curious what he'll do with it:

I actually took a bunch of timelapse clips of this one too. I'll share that when I get around to putting it together.

I painted this tiny imaginary landscape as a way to get the juices flowing. It led, in an oblique sort of way, to my current wip, a still life.

I'm currently working on this 16x20in still life. I'm intending to enter it into a competition, but the deadline is very soon. We shall see. I'll show you the finish and all the stages in the next newsletter.
