Dear Subscribers,

Greetings!
As teased with sketches in last week's newsletter, I've been working on a large 3' square painting. It is done.

First stage. I wasn't sure if any tone from the board would be left by the end of the painting, but I wanted it as an option. And I don't like starting on white:

My painting space is dark, which is why the above progress photos are grey where they should be white. I just now forgot to adjust those in photoshop this time, oh well.

And the finished painting, "Overlord" (36x36):

This was knife painted. By the end I was troweling on big gobs of white. Fun.
I'd imagined this looking a bit creepy, and I think it happened. Turned out very close to my original thoughts about the composition.

It's funny--at the beginning this size looked huge...massive...intimidating. Now I look and it doesn't seem all that big anymore. More big painting are in my immediate future.

Until next week,
