Greetings!

Brace yourself. This is going to be a loooong newsletter. Might as well make some coffee while you wait for all the pictures to load. Seriously... depending on your internet speed you might even have time to bake muffins too.

I was recently a guest on John Dalton's excellent podcast. He asked some great questions and it was an enjoyable chat. Check out Episode 53 - The Art of Now with David Cheifetz on his website or subscribe in iTunes!

The opening reception for my 3-Person Exhibition at Gallery 1261 was awesome! To those who were able to come out, Thank you so much.

The show catalog was rather sexy. The gallery is still selling it HERE.

As promised in my instagram post, here below are the progress photos for the two largest figure paintings in the show.

Here are the progress photos for "Angel of Creation" (40x30):

When working this large it always surprises me how much time and paint is required to fill the panel.

Working with larger brushes to make progress. (Filbert bristles)

Feeling out the background. Searching. I know I want an ethereal feel... misty.. ghostly.

Refining all over.

Wings start to take shape. Keeping them high key. Scaling up from normal size bird references, amalgamating into something convincing. An interesting challenge.

It was so awesome to see this in the gallery, in well-lit glory, hung in a place of honor on the central wall. Very satisfying.

Two awesome workshops in May: One in Denver at Gallery 1261 and one in Lindale Texas at Maureen Killaby's school, yet again!

First, Denver. Here is the back room in the gallery, normally used as secondary hanging space:

I'm cutting back a bit on workshops and travel these days so there are currently only 2 scheduled. The next one is:

New painting!

Stages:

Very loose start. How liberating.

More and more my painting process has become a journey of exploration. Searching, testing, trying to find the way.

Notice I changed the shadow colors in the face to blue. You don't know until you try. That's the beauty of such a forgiving medium.

It started as wings...then something else came to me.

And below is the finished painting, "Heartstrings" (12x16, $2700), debuting in Figurative II at Gallery 1261 June 17th.
