Dear Subscribers,
Greetings!
I was going to write a thoughtful and detailed explanation of the long
newsletter hiatus, but with all the developments in the last 7 months,
it kept falling to the bottom of my priorities list. It's probably for
the best---I wouldn't want you to get all tl;dr on me. The perfect is
the enemy of the good, and keeping you updated is definitely GOOD for
me. Thanks for your patience. For those of you who don't follow my
Instagram , here is the
rapid fire breakdown of what transpired since we last spoke, in
chronological order: Moved from Seattle to Olympia, WA. After 4 yrs at
home with kids, my wife resumes her career. So we swap roles. I do full
time dad. Many adjustments and learning experiences. House hunt. Buy
house. Move again. Get settled. Adjustments. Just recently I'm getting
back into a painting groove as much as possible. Yay!
My first painting back was a still life. Progress pics:

Next was a self portrait. Just felt like the next thing I needed to do.

The self portrait takes a sudden turn. And no, this painting isn't a
Terminator reference (as some on Instagram thought), but I'm not
totally opposed to the idea, lols. It has more to do with my own recent
challenges.

New studio! As I settle in it is becoming the best space I've ever had.
Here it was before we purchased:

Here it was after purchase and before moving in. New paint job! Nice
and dark. I was going to try out Sherrie Mcgraw's famed studio color
formula , but decided
on a paint by Behr called Black Locust in a flat finish. I love it:

And now it's basically unpacked and set up and with new lighting and
heating. Updated picture will be in the next newsletter.

See you next month! I'm going to get back into a monthly release, but
my new role as stay at home dad will require more flexibility. So it
will be monthly-ish :). Happy New Year -David
