![]() Dear Subscribers, Greetings! "Dusk Man" for charity (from the previous newsletter) was sold to generous collector Joe Small. For the 50% donation, Joe chose The Outreach Foundation's COVID-19 emergency fund. Inspired by this successful sale, I am now collaborating with Gallery 1261 on a larger charity effort. More on that later. First, I have a new painting to show you.
My reference for the new painting. I took this photo in Seattle years ago, looking down on a wet I-5 from Pine or Boren. ![]() Painting stages. First, blocking in with a big brush: ![]() Switching to knife and refining placement: ![]() I start on the primary focal vehicle: ![]() Next stage. Developing the truck. More lights. Gradually refining proportions: ![]() Next stage: ![]() Next stage. Exaggerating warmth in the focal area, exaggerating cools everywhere else. Sharpest detail will be restricted to the truck: ![]() Next stage. In the midst of this pandemic and my current state of isolation, I wanted this painting to feel like it was bursting with life...a cornucopia of motion spewing out from under the 1-5 Freeway Park/Convention Center lid. I started to imagine the separate, luscious and intricate storylines of each individual driver and passenger: ![]() And the finished painting below, "Fountain Of Life" (20x16 oil on linen on aluminum ACM panel): ![]() And a little time lapse video showing the painting process: ![]() This painting is for sale as part of the following:
